Lalaria: The Secluded Treasure of Skiathos Island

💙 While visiting Skiathos at the end of last summer, we decided to take a sunset photography trip by boat to the secluded beach of Lalaria.

And really, as I discovered then, the port fading into the distance, Greece should be experienced on the sea. Just like the Greek themselves, in ancient times, travelled the world – or at least this part of it – on their ships, so I and my family journeyed across the waves to this ancient site of beauty and mystery.

And then, there it was — Lalaria Beach, emerging like a scene from an untold myth. We were greeted by a dragon frozen in stone, rising like a primordial guardian out of the ice-blue water while the bluish-grey cliffs, towering and majestic, felt like silent sentinels watching over us.

This beach isn’t your typical sun-and-sand tourist spot. It’s raw, rugged, and it whispers secrets of ancient times with every wave that crashes against its pebbly shore. The rolling waves breathe deeply and slowly across the languid curve of the beach, and the beautiful, round stones murmur and sigh as the azure sea caresses them, each telling a tale of timeless serenity.

I have never seen a beach quite like that, ever. It is like a faerie tale in real life.

Walking on those pebbles, feeling the cool waves wash over my feet, I was struck by a profound sense of tranquility. It was as if Lalaria didn’t just exist outside of time but also outside of the chaos of modern life. There’s something about standing in a place so ancient, so untouched by civilization, that makes you reflect on your own existence.

As the day began to fold into the evening, a new spectacle began. Saying goodbye to Lalaria wasn’t just a matter of hopping back on the boat and waving it off. We were sailing to see the Sun set over the far mountains of Greece, framed by the endless waves of the Aegean Sea as the Sun tried vainly to hide its shining face behind a thin and delicate veil of pink clouds.

If my tale has stirred a wanderlust in you, or if you’ve ever longed to witness the untouched beauty of the Greek islands, I urge you to dive into the adventure. And hey, if you want to see it all unfold through my eyes, check out my video. And let me know, in the comments, which other hidden treasures you have encountered. 💙
