He stood by the window, looking at the raindrops softly falling on the ground. It seemed nothing could disturb his peace. But suddenly, a bright rainbow in the sky drew his attention. Surprised, he looked up and did not believe his eyes! In the clouds, there was a flying woman, a girl with transparent, glittering wings. It looked almost like she was conducting – sending some clouds to the right, some to the left, pushing up this cloud and down another. And then, when she was all satisfied with her work, she mixed several of them together, and it began to rain even more.

“So, this is all your fault,” he called up to her, “that it rains so much these days?”

She turned her head and flew towards him, her eyes bright as stars and cheek red with excitement. “You can see me! How is that possible?” she exclaimed in wonder with a voice like a rustling brook.

“Of course, I can see you. I have eyes, you know.”

“But humans are not supposed to see water fays!”

“Then maybe I am not your common human,” he replied with a smile.

She shook her head, and a fountain of rainbows was born of her radiant and bright smile!

… and then, the alarm clock rang.

He opened his eyes and looked at the time. Morning. Time to get up. He sighed deeply. “Just a dream,” he thought.

During the week, he kept thinking about that strange dream, feeling distracted and unsettled. And now, resting by the fireplace with a glass of fresh lemon water, he returned to that memory again.

“You know,” he said softly to the air, “you don’t have to hide. I won’t bite you.”

“But how did you know,” the air replied suddenly, “that I am here?! I am sure you cannot see me!”

“I don’t have to, dear,” he answered. He showed her the rainbow shining within his glass of water. “You just have to smile.”
